Up until last year we used Citrix to povide remote connectivity to users either on a per App basis or a full RDP solution. Since then we have been migrating most remote computer users to VMware View solution with App-V for application deployment for each user. for Tablet based workers we are still using Citrix at this time.

New version of BlueSpace Sentinel works with SolarWinds Enterprise Operations Console and enables cross domain capabilities for federal IT professionals at a price every agency can afford

AUSTIN, TX – May 14, 2013 – BlueSpace Federal, a provider of Multi-Level Secure (MLS) applications and pioneer of the MLS 2.0 approach, and SolarWinds (NYSE: SWI), a provider of powerful, affordable IT management software, announced a partnership today to enable SolarWinds software solutions to operate across security domains by making use of BlueSpace MLS 2.0 technology. BlueSpace will offer a new version of their product Sentinel that works with SolarWinds Enterprise Operations Console (EOC) to enable cross domain capabilities. BlueSpace and SolarWinds will jointly promote the product to customers in the U.S. federal government.

The combined solution enables a single display, high side view from the SolarWinds Enterprise Operations Console (EOC) to provide unified visibility in a consolidated network operations center that allows users to monitor multiple networks at different classification levels. The resulting capability increases cyber situational awareness and improves decision making and response times.

“We have had a number of defense and intelligence customers ask about cross domain capabilities to do their jobs better,” said David Kimball, VP of Federal Sales, SolarWinds. “Together with BlueSpace’s cross domain technology and expertise and SolarWinds’ powerful and easy-to-use product framework, we believe the new version of BlueSpace Sentinel will provide agency IT professionals a comprehensive and affordable way to manage IT operations in a cross domain environment.”

“SolarWinds products have become increasingly popular solutions for IT professionals in the federal government,” said Pat Motola, CEO and President, BlueSpace Federal. “Those users are now asking for cross domain capabilities. The new version of BlueSpace Sentinel is the first of its kind to bring together affordable commercial, off-the-shelf technologies to provide centralized, global and cross domain network, server and application monitoring.”

The SolarWinds EOC resides on the high side network and communicates with other SolarWinds products on lower networks via Sentinel. Currently, BlueSpace Sentinel supports the following SolarWinds IT management solutions:

Additional solutions can be added as part of the planning and installation process based on specific customer needs.

“The SolarWinds Enterprise Operations Console is an excellent single domain cyber situational awareness product,” said Motola. “BlueSpace Sentinel installs as a virtual appliance in each security domain and brokers communications between SolarWinds solutions through a guard using MLS 2.0 technology. This approach is highly secure and greatly simplifies cross domain certification.”

Sentinel was developed by BlueSpace using the BlueSpace Mission Application Framework (MAF). MAF allows further extensions and customizations to be added to applications to meet mission specific needs, including supporting additional SolarWinds products, creating new visualizations and integrating with existing mission specific applications.

Both BlueSpace and SolarWinds will be showing demonstrations at the Special Operations Forces Industry (SOFIC) Conference in Tampa, Fla., on May 14-16. BlueSpace will be in booth no. 1816 in the exhibit hall at the Tampa Convention Center, and SolarWinds be in the SOFIC Virtual Exhibit Hall and will host a hospitality suite at the Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel and Marina, Meeting Room 9, on May 14-15 from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.

About BlueSpace

BlueSpace is a US small business that provides multi-level secure (MLS) applications using a breakthrough approach called “MLS 2.0” to help the US defense and intelligence communities achieve information dominance. MLS 2.0 greatly reduces the cost, time and risk traditionally associated with cross domain applications. Users benefit from improved situational awareness, analysis, decision making, response time and collaboration. IT benefits from flexibility, strong security and broad platform support. Certification is simplified by using certified data guards and only highly constrained XML for all cross domain data transfers. MLS 2.0 applications such as email, calendar and search are available on a COTS basis. Mission specific applications such as C2ISR and Cyber can be developed on a GOTS basis using the MLS 2.0 Mission Application Framework. For more information, visit www.bluespace.com.

Alert Central currently only supports IMAP and POP3 for email retrieval.  We are investigating support for MAPI and EWS protocols.

Custom Maps using network atlas

I currently manage a isolated lab enterprise network that spans between two separate buildings. I am looking at a new way to display the network maps to show the physical layout of the buildings, with a drill down to show possible lab layout configuration with nodes representing each network component.  Is there any guidance on how to go about showing this type of representation? I am new to the forums and this may (or something close to it) have been discussed already before.  I have a lot of VIPs that are not techies that would like a overall network status map that is easy to follow.

This is not a presently known issue- what version of IE are you running? Can we verify we deleted all user cookies / temp cache?

Re: How do I remove bogus hardware sensors after a server rebuild?

Are you referring to volumes or the hardware health sensors?  For volumes, you can delete them from the database.  You would want to delete the volumes in question directly from the volumes table.  I just ran into this issue with one of my clients.  The drives were renamed and then orphaned by SolarWinds.  You could not see them in list resources or by expanding out the node in Manage Nodes.  Deleting them from the database resolved the issue.  I wound up creating a report to show all of the orphaned volumes, so that we can keep an eye on it in future, and then deleted them from the database based on the volume IDs which are unique to each one.  If it is hardware health sensors though, I am not sure what all would be affected by deleting them from the database.  In that case, you may have to just list resources and deselect it.  Run a new poll, list resources again and add it back.

Hope this helps.

Try this, in the email configuration options in Getting Started Wizard:

1. Select the 'advanced options' expansion.

2. Check the 'Use different credentials for SMTP' checkbox.

3. leave the credentials empty.

This should setup the smtp connection without creds.  This may or may not fix the problem.

How does the client certificate management work?

Hi,

I'm trying to understand how the client certificate management distribution from WSUS works. As I have the challenge to get a internally signed trusted publisher certificate issued to clients which are on several separate AD domains and I'm wondering if the WSUS client distribution maybe able to help me instead of me having to update GPO templates/ domain controller version to enable me to add the trusted publisher certs to PKI sections of GPOs.

By default we are pulling the first 1,000 routing table entries.  This was put in place to keep NPM from overwhelming the device with SNMP queries on larger routing tables.  The KB article has not be publicly published yet.

Do you know how many entries are in the devices routing table that you're monitoring?

SAM actually collects the Average Disk Transfers/Sec for volumes monitored via WMI. The recommended thresholds for this counter is .04.

I had this issue as well. On a 2008R2 server, you have to look in C:\Programdata, which is a hidden folder.

So how do I go about passing a norestart switch to the installer? As I can't accept unplanned reboots that users have no control over.

Disk (or array) not showing in ESXi direct poll

$

We are running ESXi 5.1.0 which is managed by a VCenter. The ESXi host is a Dell R620. We installed the OpenManage VIB on the host and configured according to Dell/VMware docs. When we brought the node into Orion using SNMP polling, it automatically chose to poll directly. I see the hardware information on the Node Details page but there is no "storage" item listed (disk or array) like we see with other physical nodes with OMSA. When I switch to poll via VCenter, I do see a "disk" item, but lose the "battery" item. And neither shows the PERC array.

I would prefer to poll directly as from what I have read in the forums, this is the preferred method, but with no storage hardware monitoring that makes me nervous. Should I see a storage hardware item when polled directly? Using SAM 5.5.0 and NPM 10.4.2. See attached pictures of direct vs VCenter.
